Michael Kiggundu

During his final round of applications, Michael received an email from Cre8ing Vision – having signed up after visiting The Ultimate Seminar the year prior – about a Creative Intern opportunity at Cantine Co which he decided to apply for on a whim.

JOB TITLE : JUNIOR @ CANTINE CO

“Last year I attended my first Ultimate Seminar and I’m honestly so glad I did! Not only did I gain an immense amount of insight into the music industry, but it also led me to sign up to the Cre8ing Vision mailing list which landed me my first internship-turned-permanent role in Advertising. The music industry is constantly growing and developing, and I truly believe that the Ultimate Seminar will continue to be a space where people can gain the knowledge that they can execute throughout their career to stay ahead of the curve.”

Being raised in a music-filled household in South London, Michael Kiggundu expressed a deep love for both music and technology from an extremely young age. Experiencing the early days of social media as a primary school child and seeing how it can be used as a form of expression for everyone from his peers to global popstars, Michael has since made it his mission to use social media (and the internet as a whole) to clearly convey the ideas and beliefs of himself and others to the world.

Since the age of 12, Michael began producing and recording Hip-Hop and R&B music and releasing it online through MySpace – a career that he still actively pursues to this day using more current content platforms, under the name MUNDU – through which he began to explore graphic design, having realised the need to have visual assets to accompany the music. This led to him exploring the role of a Freelance Graphic Designer at 14, creating various pieces of artwork and social media assets for his peers. With the evolution of social media, Michael found himself develop a deeper interest into the world of advertising as his music grew as well as a deeper desire to understand how social media could work to propel budding artists on their own terms.

This curiosity would lead him to apply for a variety of internships and work experience positions within the music industry to no avail, until joining the growing management team of UK R&B star Shakka as a Digital Intern in 2013. Throughout this role, Michael would go on to truly discover how social media and music can work hand-in- hand to communicate an artist’s message in a way that is true to them. Having gradually transitioned from a Digital Intern to an Artist Manager’s Assistant over the years, Michael would continue to explore additional internships and work experience opportunities within Advertising during this time – including a Creative Work Placement at Ogilvy & Mather – all whilst studying for a BA in Marketing/Advertising, taking on a range of part-time Retail roles and continuing to develop
his own music career.

After realising that university may not be the best path for him, Michael began re-applying for a variety of Music and Advertising roles in May 2017 during his final exam season. During his final round of applications, Michael received an email from Cre8ing Vision – having signed up after visiting The Ultimate Seminar the year prior – about a Creative Intern opportunity at Cantine Co which he decided to apply for on a whim. Having chosen to conduct the consequential phone interview with the company as opposed to attending his final exam at university, Michael found that this was the perfect space for him to express his love for both Music and Social Media and now works at the agency as a full-time Junior
